External ostrich dispatches

1.The dispatch function is used to move animals from one location to another. Two categories of dispatch can be done:

Internal dispatches
External dispatches

2. External Ostrich Movement - A movement permit MUST be acquired first before ostriches may be dispatched to the next location.
(Within a Registered Compartment)

3. The details of the ostriches and from which location (holding pen)to which other location are recorded into the system. Manual records can be kept on a clip board but ultimately have to be processed within the Owner's GMPBasic® system. This can be updated to the server the next time when the owner connects to the internet.

This forwards  the ID tag's unique identification and details relating to the animal records electronically to   the next farmer, auctioneer, feedlot or abattoir. The next owner will be
notified by e-mail. The process will change the status on the GMPBasic® Animal Health Central Data base, to record the next location details.

4. Internal (with own animals in same compartment)

5. External (to the next buyer, farmers own or other compartment or to a next sales location) Movement permit MUST be obtained from the SAOBC after the ostriches have all been bled   and a negative serology test has been concluded.

This movement permit number must be entered into the GMP Ostrich software system against the birds ID no's in the system (Manual & electronic Dispatch notification function)

6. External dispatches   occur from one registered compartment to another registered compartment or registered abattoir. The system keeps record of the numbers and the dates from where to where.

Owners may weigh their birds and then do internal dispatches to a quarantine camp for serology prior to the External Dispatches.

7. Animals are selected from a paddock location (sero-negative birds only).

This example illustrates ostriches being moved to a quarantine group.

The ostriches are handled in the race.

8. Once the sero-negative results are received, the producer may enquire as to the movement permit number that is issued from the SAOBC. This movement permit number must be entered into the GMPBasic® dispatch function process where the specific birds have been selected. Then they may be dispatched electronically within the GMPBasic® software management system to the next registered compartment location.

9. The system allows for DEFAULT Locations to be changed in Owner Locations in the SETUP menu function.

The system affords you the opportunity to be able to select the whole farm or a specific paddock, camp or holding pen. Hereby general or specific data allocation may be made to the ostriches. In the menu select
Dispatch Animals options then select the animal type to which these animals belong e.g. ostrich. This will display all the animals visible in that specific default dispatch location. Select the correct group which represents the ostriches that have been quarantined for the serology tests.

The ostriches for external movement are selected from the OSTRICH ANIMAL TYPE in the dispatch drop down list. The selected ostriches which must all be
sero-negative before being allowed to move to the next column on the right, ready for dispatch.

10. You will also note that there are columns indicating meat withdrawal periods. This is linked back to any treatments that you may have administered and recorded as such in the treatment menu of the system.

If there are no meat withdrawal periods indicated, the birds may be dispatched.

By clicking on the DISPATCH (next) function, the no. of ostriches are subtracted from the previous group and allocated to the new group / location.

A dispatch report is automatically created showing some information e.g. Tag number, breed, last weight and total animals dispatched in this session.

11. A dispatch report may be printed from the dispatch log. This dispatch log may be attached to the movement permit and must accompany the truck driver on the journey to the next registered compartment or registered abattoir.

This dispatch report will indicate the individual ostrich numbers of each tagged bird. It will also contain the last known live weight as was recorded by the producer.

The sender (supplier) and the next location (dispatch) details will also be reflected in this report.

12. Dispatch Report of the listed animals with its specific dispatch Reference No.
